Message
I am extremely delighted to extend my warmest greetings to everyone attending the 2nd International Film Festival Chittagong 2004; arranged by Chittagong Film Centre and organized by Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies.
This year the Festival is screening 49 movies of 40 different countries-representing an unique multicultural show. An event providing opportunity to the film lovers, film makers, critics, activists and viewers to enjoy 49 good movies made around the world. One of the important objectives of an International Film Festival is to create more viewers, thereby bigger market and therefore more production-for good movies. I am proud to observe that at least a dozen of good movies were produced last year in Bangladesh-certainly this is an impressive figure.

In Chittagong we had to overcome lots of limitations and hurdles to organize the festival. Finally we could-because of my pool of young colleagues, who are dedicated and energetic in the truest sense. Indeed they are presenting a Festival that this City can be proud of.
I express my heartiest gratitude to Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies for their co-operation. I also remember and thank International Federation of Film Societies. My thankful acknowledgement to all sponsors, contributors, advertisers, media personnel, advisers and finally to all viewers for their association to make the festival a successful and enjoyable one.

Bidhan Barua
Festival Chairman

Forward
On behalf of Chittagong Film Centre and Festival Committee I love to welcome all to the 2nd International Film Festival Chittagong 2004.
As a way of communicating, perhaps none is more powerful than film, with its capacity to bring the filmmaker's message and creative ideas to life in ways that are provocative, inspiring and entertaining. Film can play a vital role for awaking in a country like Bangladesh. But unfortunately in Bangladesh film is now seized by perverted, rootless & corrupt mainstream cinema.
Thereafter a sound environment has been coming back we hope at our film industry, even though very slowly. We hope also the festival should play a key role gradually in our film industry.
On December 31, 2004 Chittagong Film Centre is going to complete 12 years. In this Auspicious time CFC is arranging 2nd International Film Festival in association with Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies.
New to this year's festival is the presentation of 49 movies from 40 countries of around the world at several venues under seven sections, Homage to Ritwik Ghatak, Retrospective of Girish Kasaravalli, Focus on World Classics, Focus on Arab, Bangla Film Session, Popular Showcase and International Section. Seven popular movies will be shown at three Cinema Halls of the city while Studio Theatre and Muslim Institute Auditorium, the twin main Venues of the Festival will screen 42 Movies of other six sections. The Open Forum Seminar of the Festival will be held at Theatre Laboratory Auditorium of Theatre Institute Chattagram.
On behalf of me and my dearest colleagues, I wish to extend my best wishes and thanks to the Sponsors, Contributors, Advertisers, Media Personalities, Advisors, Viewers, Fans, Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies and International Federation of Film Societies for their hard support, work and dedication to make this year's Film Festival the most successful and enjoyable.

Srikata finds himself constantly torn between the two women he encounters during his journeys without destination. On the one hand, there is the seductive , affluent, and dinified Rajlakshmi, his childhood sweetheart who is now a renowned coutesan of Patna. On the other, there is the beautiful, elusive and enigmatic Kamallata, the Vaishnavi who talks to him as if they have known each other forever. The complete polarisation of his relationship with these two women defines the focal point of the film.
